April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month. Oral cancer is a serious illness that will affect over 40,000 Americans this year alone. According to the American Cancer Society, oral and oropharyngeal cancers are the sixth most common cancer in the world. Eliminating high risk behaviors, such as cigarette, cigar or pipe smoking, use of smokeless tobacco and excessive consumption of alcohol, is very important in the prevention of oral cancers.

Early detection is key to increasing the survival rate with these cancers. Oral cancer can be diagnosed through a dental examination, which should include a quick and painless oral cancer screening. At Concerned Dental Care, we routinely provide such services to our patients. If it has been a while since your last dental examination, we encourage you to contact one our convenient offices to schedule your appointment soon.
