Everything you’ve ever wondered about veneers
- Posted on: Sep 12 2017
Veneers are an increasingly popular dental treatment among my New York patients, and it’s no wonder why. Veneers provide a natural-looking and beautiful smile that can directly counteract discoloration, misalignment, and signs of aging. Despite this, I find that patients often come to me with confusion and misunderstandings about the process. In these instances, I’m always happy to provide answers. After all, everyone deserves a smile that they love and feel comfortable with. Below are a few examples of the questions I hear about veneers, but if you are considering them for yourself, it would be best to book an appointment and chat about your options in person.
What are veneers made of?
The veneers that are used in our clinic are made of very thin porcelain. That allows them to be transparent (and therefore more natural looking), yet still be sturdy enough to hold up to the daily wear and tear that your mouth experiences.
Who should get them?
Veneers aren’t the right fit for everyone, but they are a great option for anyone worried about spaces between teeth, chips, stains, or misshapen smiles.
Are they easy to get?
If you find that you are leaning towards getting veneers, you will need to set up three appointments to complete the process. During the first, we will explain the expected results and the potential limitations of veneers, and you can ask any questions you have about them. During your next appointment, we will buff your teeth in preparation of applying your new veneers. We’ll also take an impression of your mouth and send it to a lab where your veneers will be customized to fit your natural smile. Your veneers will arrive in a couple of weeks, and at your third appointment, we will confirm that they are the right shape and color, then chemically apply them with cement.
How do I keep them clean?
One of the great things about getting veneers is that you can stick with a normal dental routine, treating them just as you would your original teeth. Of course, if poor dental hygiene got you to the place where you need veneers, you’ll probably want to improve your dental care. If you have any questions about brushing, flossing, or regular check ups, don’t hesitate to ask. You are never too old to learn more about taking care of your body. Today’s modern veneers are incredibly strong and durable. With the right treatment, they can last around 10 to 15 years.
Will I like them?
Since you will hardly have to modify your routine once you have them, you’ll find that your veneers are easy to maintain. Veneers are also one of the most natural-looking options for concealing dental concerns. Most of the patients we fit with new veneers are quite pleased with the results. We take great pride in ensuring that your veneers are manufactured from the highest quality materials and fitted with precision.
