Is it too late to straighten your teeth?

If there’s anything consistent about our teeth, it’s that they tend to change over time. As a kid, your teeth fell out, were gathered by the tooth fairy, and were replaced with larger, permanent versions in the weeks that followed. Later, you might have had new wisdom teeth appear in the back of your mouth, causing an extraction to take place. Teeth continue to evolve as we grow up and enter into middle age, too. For some, this means a change in the way they are colored or a noticeable increase in sensitivity thanks to decay. For others, it means a shift in the arrangement of teeth.
Despite what’s depicted in movies, TV, and other outlets, misalignment isn’t just a problem for teens. In fact, many of our patients are middle-adults who had braces or retainers as kids and are now seeing big changes in the way their teeth are placed. Their teeth might have spread apart, causing gapping; moved together, creating tightness and making cleanliness an issue; or moved to the side, making teeth crooked and overlapped. If some teeth have been removed, others might have shifted into their place. In some cases, misalignment can actually cause chronic headaches, speech impediments, or other challenges.
Regardless of your tooth situation or how it developed, the bottom line is that it’s not too late to change the shape of your smile, and treatments might be more convenient than you realize. Gone are the days of painful, clunky braces and distracting headwear. Thanks to advances in orthodontic techniques, you can reshape your teeth without altering your day-to-day routine. Many of our New York patients, ranging from teens to adults, have had great results with Invisalign.
What is Invisalign? Quite simply, it is an alternative to braces. The treatment system straightens crooked teeth and adjusts smiles to rearrange spaces in as little as a year. Similar to retainers, Invisalign aligners are removable at anytime, so you won’t be inconvenienced by them. One of their greatest advantages is that they are made from clear plastic, meaning they are almost entirely invisible and will likely go unnoticed by those around you. This means that you don’t have to delay treatment if you are worried about an upcoming big event, like a wedding or class reunion, and you won’t have to worry about looking like an intern or high schooler in the boardroom or when you order a glass of wine at dinner.
Invisalign is truly changing the way we think about smiles. Whether your teeth have shifted since the braces of your youth or you’ve never attempted to realign your teeth before, if you are interested in updating your alignment, you can be on the path to doing so with just one or two visits to our clinic each month. Together, we can tackle your crowding, spacing, crossbite, overbite, underbite, or other situation. We want you to be thrilled with your smile.
